failed to download bzl

Hello there!

As I understand, bazel-stack-vscode uses bzl to do its tasks. it downloads the tool from: https://get.bzl.io/linux_amd64/v1.5.3/bzl. But download failed with message:

ERROR: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND get.bzl.io. The address cannot be accessed manually either. Maybe the origianl source is not available, is there a way I can manually solve this, like downloading from another available source?

Thank you! I have tried that before. But due to version mismatch, some commands will fail. So the extension still has some issues.

Yes i was testing this extension too but i think it is not maintained anymore. Last update was 2 years ago. It would be nice if the owner could give an answer to our problem.

Yep, or temporarily point to the source we can build ourselves.

A workaround I found is to locate the v1.5.3-bzl executable on a machine that downloaded it before the link went dead (for me, it was ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/stackbuild.bazel-stack-vscode/file-downloader-downloads/v1.5.3-bzl), copy that over to the machine that needs it, and then use the bsv.bzl.server.executable VS Code setting to point to that executable.

Ran into this issue, and it completely breaks the bazel-stack-vscode extension, even functionality that doesn't depend on bzl. I ended up disabling it with this setting:

"bsv.bzl.server.enabled": false

Not sure what bzl actually provides, but I'm able to run bazel targets by clicking again so I'm happy.

Also, while trying to debug this, I got a hold of a v1.5.3-bzl binary from a coworker, and tried to put it in S3 so I could just update the bsv.bzl.downloadBaseUrl setting and spare the rest of my team from having to think about it. Unfortunately, that setting seems to be ignored, and it continued to fail on the https://get.bzl.io request. I then manually changed the binary path and that did work, although there were still some other errors with bzl which I didn't bother to investigate.

After setting "bsv.bzl.server.enabled": false, it still runs into bsv.lsp issues. When lsp is turned off, the build/run/test clicks of bazel targets are also gone. So I assume somehow they are also connected.
