LMDE - check version doesn't work properly

If you have the latest version of Linux Mint (Ubuntu edition) and you launch Mintupgrade, you will get a message indicating that you already have the latest version, see screenshot below:

However, this check doesn't work with LMDE, see screen:

From my point of view, we should have the same behavior between Ubuntu & Debian Edition.

According to https://github.com/linuxmint/mintupgrade/blob/master/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintupgrade/checks.py, there is a check with the file /etc/linuxmint/info.

I checked on this VM and the file seems to be OK:

It isn't reasonable to run mintupgrade, since the mintupgrade program will normally require updates just before the upgrade procedure is issued, just before the next upgrade instructions are released.
So possibly a bit dangerous.

I agree, there is no need to launch it if you are already on the latest version but mistake can happen and if the check is correct, there is no risk at all. This is currently the case on Linux Mint 22.3.

This is an issue for LMDE version.

Anyway, when LMDE 8 will be announced, not sure the upgrade process will be updated day one and so people can upgrade LMDE 7 to LMDE 7... It shouldn't happen.

The upgrade procedure is always announced shortly after the official release occurs.
